The new champion Syndra in League of Legends uses a skill named Dark Sphere to place these cool balls of anti-matter on the field. Comparing syndra to veigar for single target damage is silly. Syndra does more damage than veigar in the late game except in edge cases. We are talking about normal values, even as high as 800 ability power, but not edge cases like 24092402 ability power.
Syndra 6 Sphere 540 / 810 / 1080 (+ 120% AP)
Veigar 250 / 375 / 500 (+ 120% AP)
Syndra's ult does 290 more base damage than veigar's. The scaling is the same, and from this alone you might assume that Syndra does more damage with her ult than veigar does. But that isn't exactly true. Remember that veigar has a 2nd source of scaling, equal to 80% of his target's ap. Veigar will also have more ability power than syndra from farming baleful strike.
X= veigar's ap
Y= syndra's ap
250+1.2X+0.8Y = 540+1.2Y
250+1.2X = 540 +0.4Y
1.2X = 290+0.4Y
So assuming syndra has 50 ap,
1.2X = 290 + 0.4*50
1.2X = 310
X = 258
Veigar would need 258 ability power to do the same damage.
so early game, syndra does much more damage to veigar than veigar does to syndra with their ults alone.
Veigar is a late game champ, so lets consider that.
How much ability power do they need in order to do the same damage?
500+1.2X+0.8Y = 1080+1.2Y
1.2X = 580 +0.4Y
X=Y
1.2X = 580 + 0.4X
0.8X = 580
X = Y = 725
When veigar and syndra both have 725 ability power, syndra will do the same damage to veigar that veigar does to syndra, and any more ability power than this and veigar will begin to out damage syndra.
Some people might claim that veigar will have 150 more ability power from baleful farm than syndra, so lets account for that:
500+1.2X+0.8Y = 1080+1.2Y
1.2X = 580 +0.4Y
X=Y+150
1.2X = 580 + 0.4(X-150)
1.2X = 580 + 0.4X - 60
0.8X = 520
X = 650
When syndra and veigar both build 650 ability power, but veigar has 150 more ability power than this from Baleful strike farm (and perhaps the rabadons passive on that amount of ability power), then veigar and syndra will do the same amount of damge to each other. Any more ability power than this and veigar will do more damage to syndra than syndra does to veigar.
CONCLUSION:
Obviously the scaling is the same and the base damage is different, so 6 sphere ulti syndra will do more damage to people who don't build ap than veigar primordial blast will do.
The following do the same amount of damage to you assuming you have 650 ability power:
being hit by a veigar ult while he has 800 ability power.
being hit by a 6 sphere syndra ult while she has 650 ability power.
Furthermore, if you don't have 650 ability power, syndra will do more damage to you than veigar will with ulties.
We all have been subject to the one-shot by an 800 ap veigar as a 650 ap annie experience, and syndra can do the same thing regardless of your ap, and she doesn't have to farm 150 minions with baleful strike to do it (she just has to set up 6 spheres).
Oh and btw, syndra can do a 7 sphere ult.
