Graphics: To the average player, the most apparent limitations are found in the system’s graphics and sound. For graphics, the Game Boy renders sprites and backgrounds in a way very similar to the NES — a grid divides the screen into 8×8-pixel ‘blocks’ forming a total resolution of 160×144 pixels. Finally we'll attach this all to either out DMG, or our Link Cable, either way, i created diagrams for both! They're a little more clear than the main one, so make sure to take a peak! Now that we've set it all up- why not give it a go! Download mGB, and flash it to a cart- plug it into your Gameboy, and Jam out! If you're having issues don't fret! Nov 06, 2010 I just received a gameboy that I bought in the mail. However, the screen is way too hard to see. How do I fix this? Here is a picture from ebay of what I described. The top is what a screen SHOULD look like, the bottom is what mine looks like.
Hi all,
Fix Dmg Gameboy Contrast All The Way Update
so after years I got back into my DMG collection
and went through my scrap DMGs to test them out and fix.
I got one which had a few dead lines, which were easily fixed, however it
has abother weird problem:
When turning it on, the screen is directly all black.
The contrast wheel doesn‘t change anything
(I think sth. actually changes veeeeeery slightly but all in all it stays black, I also have the impression that after some time, a picture of noise appears, some pixels get almost unnoticable brighter).
The cables seem fine, sound works.
I changed the potentiometer, but nothing changed.
I connected another LCD board, which worked fine.
I found this post from a few years back, but it doesn‘t seem to be solved: https://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/1593 … -contrast/
Has anyone encountered this issue and solved it?
I got a soldering iron, multimeter, a bunch of caps and the will to try and fix it, but I really do not know what to do
Any help appreciated!
Game Boy Color won't turn on
The device will not turn on.
Power switch off
Make sure the device is turned on by checking that the power switch is in the 'on' position.
Drained/bad batteries
If your Game Boy does not turn on, especially if it has not been used in a while, try replacing the old batteries with a fresh set of AA batteries.
Bad display
Check the LED on the right of the display. If it does light up, it is possible that the issue may be a bad display that needs to be replaced. To replace the LCD Display, refer to the LCD display repair guide.
There is no sound
You can't hear anything coming out of your Game Boy's speakers.
Sound is switched off
Check to make sure that sound is turned on. If the volume 'wheel' is turned all the way to the left, then the sound is turned all the way down. To turn it on, turn the volume wheel to the right (clockwise) until you reach your desired volume.
Bad speaker
If the volume is turned on but you still can't hear anything out of the speaker, it could be a bad connection or broken speaker. To test this, plug a pair of headphones into the headphone jack on the bottom of the console and give it a listen. If sound comes out of the headphones just fine, it is most likely a speaker hardware problem and the part needs to be replaced.
Game freezing
So you’re in the middle of an intense Pokemon battle and suddenly your device stops responding!
Cartridge not inserted all the way
If the cartridge is not inserted fully, a poor connection with the Game Boy Color can cause the game to freeze. Remove the game and firmly reinsert it into the game slot. You should hear a ‘click’ sound when it is in correctly and completely.
Dust in the cartridge

Sometimes dust can build up in the game cartridge and cause a bad connection when inserted into the Game Boy. This makes it difficult for your console to read the information in the game cartridge. To remedy this, remove the cartridge from the Game Boy and get the dust out of there. The quickest and most popular way to do this is to simply blow into the cartridge.
Buttons are not working or are sticky
The buttons are not always responding to presses.
Clean the buttons
Take your device apart and remove the buttons. Refer to the button repair guide to see how to remove the buttons. Use a clean toothbrush and warm tap water. Scrub the buttons with the toothbrush around the sides of the button. After cleaning, let the buttons dry completely, and replace back into the device.
Replace the buttons
The buttons may need to be replaced if cleaning does not help. Again, the button repair guide is a good reference when removing and repairing the buttons.
Runny or blotchy colors on the screen
Colors are appearing on the screen that are obviously not supposed to be.
