Note that each of the following tables has been assigned an Average CR—this indicates the average difficulty of the encounters that can be rolled up on the table. A CR 4 encounter table works well when challenging a group of 4th level PCs, for example. I'm designing random encounter tables for an openworld-sandbox campaign I'm running. Currently, I'm doing fine without encounter tables, but soon my players will start to adventure at a pace that a random encounter table will help a lot with providing 'consistent randomness'.
